Sonet/SDH Module From Lucent

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) Microelectronics Group, the world leader in communications semiconductors, today announced a synchronous optical network (SONET) and synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) subsystem in a module that provides high-bandwidth, reliable connectivity in telecommunications, data communications and storage-area network applications. The new module, a 2.5 gigabit-per-second SONET/SDH micro add-drop multiplexer (or microADM), combines integrated circuits, optoelectronic components and system-level software. It is targeted at makers of networking equipment who want to include SONET/SDH interfaces in their systems without having to acquire the specific design talent and systems expertise needed to internally develop SONET/SDH hardware and software.

"By offering a complete hardware-and-software solution in a module, we offer a way for network equipment makers with little previous SONET/SDH design experience to implement this robust, carrier-grade transmission protocol in their systems," said Jennifer Tracy-Smilko, senior manager of strategic marketing in the Networks and Communications organization of Lucent's Microelectronics Group.
