Siemens Wins Tunisian Contract

MUNICH -- Siemens IC Networks has received an order from thestate-owned Tunisian carrier Tunisie Télécom, based inTunis, to supply and start up 23 access networks. The newnetworks will enable the company's customers in all thecountry's industrial areas to use flexible communicationservices from ISDN to DSL broadband connections. ICNetworks holds the number 2 position worldwide within thebroadband sector.The contract concluded between Tunisie Télécom and ICNetworks is to equip 23 access networks with Attane-FastLinktechnology. It also includes supplying 19 OLTs (Optical LineTermination) and 61 ONUs (Optical Network Unit), includingSDH transmission technology, and 8 AttaneAccessIntegratorsystems for managing the networks. This will enable theTunisian telecommunications company to make complete servicepackages available to its customers in the country's largeindustrial areas. These packages can comprise, for instance,an ISDN line, PBX interconnection, and broadband internetaccess based on ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line)."We decided to attribute the project to Siemens after aninternational tender. Furthermore, the project of setting upthe telecommunication network for last year`s mediteraneangames was an excellent experience for both of us and a goodreference in particular for Siemens in Tunisia," saidTunisie Télécom's Director General Khedija HammoudaGhariani, explaining her company's decision.
