Lucent Technologies appoints Satoshi Fujita president of Japan operations

TOKYO -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) has today announced the appointment of Satoshi Fujita as president of their operations in Japan. A former Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) executive with more than 35 years of experience in the communications industry, Fujita-san will be responsible for Lucent's overall operations and growing its business in this leading communications market.

"Fujita-san brings extensive global expertise to our Japan team and strong experience from the Service Provider perspective. He will be a valuable member of our regional team," said Bart Vogel, president Lucent Technologies Asia/Pacific. "His previous experience in the delivery of enterprise-oriented global data services and state-of-the-art IP based services, such as Global IP backbone and IP-VPN will be an asset to Lucent Japan."

Prior to assuming joining Lucent, Mr. Fujita was with NTT for most of his working career, having started with NTT in 1969. He has held leadership positions in sales, marketing, finance and operations throughout his career. He was most recently corporate auditor for NTT DoCoMo Inc. Prior to that he was the executive vice president and general manager of the global services business division of NTT Communications Corporation where he was responsible for managing the overall global business activities of NTT Com. This included all overseas subsidiaries in more than twenty countries and investment and partnership/alliance arrangements.

Mr. Fujita was deeply involved in NTT's strategy to expand its global Internet services. When NTT Worldwide Network Corporation was established in 1997 as an independent global services business unit of NTT, Mr. Fujita was selected to be president and CEO. In this role, he led the startup of global data network services and international direct dialing services.
