MUNICH and COLOGNE -- Huawei Technologies today announced the successful implementation of its Quidway Router Series in the network of the German financial carrier IZB Informatik-Zentrum München-Frankfurt a.M. Together with Huawei’s German Premium-Partner Controlware GmbH the Quidway NE and AR Series Routers were successfully implemented into the financial network.

IZB, a financial carrier and provider of data center services within the German Sparkassen organisation, operates for independent banking institutions a multitude of centralized and decentralized services. In order to improve the services and available bandwidth for the banks, IZB upgraded nearly 3000 locations from a Token Ring to an Ethernet infrastructure. For this application Huawei Quidway Series AR 28xx Routers were considered as a second-source and underwent a strict pre-qualification procedure. IZB found that Huawei’s Routers fulfilled the current and future demands for profitable network operation, even meeting the strict reliability standards of the financial industry. Today Huawei Quidway routers are operational in about 700 of the 3000 locations.

Following the good experience with Huawei’s Datacom products in the access field, IZB further considered deploying Huawei’s NetEngine Series Routers for their newly planned MPLS backbone network. Due to the recentralisation of most of the banking services to data centers in two locations in Nuremberg, the available bandwidth on the existing network became insufficient and therefore IZB decided to replace the existing ATM infrastructure by a much more performing MPLS backbone network. After issuing an official tender and inviting several vendors to bid, IZB finally decided to test Huawei’s Quidway NE40 backbone routers and AR46xx routers for application in the MPLS backbone network. The products passed the meticulous tests successfully and therefore IZB introduced this equipment into its core network.

Today, Mr. Anton Mueller, CEO of IZB, states: “Before using Huawei equipment in our network, we were mainly relying on the equipment and support of one supplier, so we are now very glad that we were able to establish Huawei as a new important supplier and partner for IZB.. We’re very satisfied with the service and support Controlware and Huawei do provide. Before knowing about Huawei, I did not think that a Chinese vendor would be able to supply us with equipment and know-how to support a financial backbone network application in Germany. But I’m happy to admit, Huawei has proven its case.”
