DALLAS -- Alcatel Optronics (NASDAQ: ALAO), a world leader inopto-electronic components for telecommunications systems, today announcedthe launch of a continuous wave laser integrating a wavelength monitoringfunction: the Alcatel 1935 LMI. Associated with an external modulator, thislaser module, with a perfectly controlled emitted wavelength, is the idealcomponent for 2.5 Gbit/s, 10 Gbit/s and 40 Gbit/s long reach and very longreach Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transmissions. Thishigh-performance laser module offers important gains in terms of DWDMsystems' space saving and cost reduction."This new laser demonstrates Alcatel Optronics' advance inmultiple-function optical and electrical integration inside a singlepackage. As one of the first companies to launch this device, we reinforceour leadership in high-end opto-electronic components, "said PhilippeBrégi, chief operating officer of Alcatel Optronics. "Tomorrow, hybridproducts will represent nearly the entire component market used intelecommunication systems over optical fiber."In a separate release:Alcatel Optronics (NASDAQ: ALAO), a world leader inopto-electronic components for telecommunications systems, today announceda new generation of continuous tunable lasers, integrating a wavelengthmonitoring function. Addressing eight different wavelengths with narrowerchannel spacing, this high-powered laser allows Wavelength DivisionMultiplexing (WDM) system designers to achieve significant gains in termsof flexibility, inventory management and cost reduction."With this new tunable laser, Alcatel Optronics offers the perfect solutionfor today's tunability requirement, clearly targeting the WDM componentspares market, the most important segment open to tunable lasers," saidPhilippe Brégi, chief operating officer of Alcatel Optronics. "Entirelycompatible with current Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers, this solution isoriginal, simple and offers high-performance. Thus, we offer a uniqueperformance-cost balance, appropriate to system manufacturers and theircustomer-operator needs."Alcatel Optronics
