SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Centerpoint Broadband Technologies, Inc., dedicated to delivering transport systems that maximize performance of optical networks, today announced that it has successfully sold its wireless division to Fresnel Microwave Systems (Fresnel). The new company, which will be headquartered in the United Kingdom, will manufacture and sell point-to-point wireless radios worldwide. Details of the transaction are not being disclosed. "Since the inception of the wireless division, it has been our strategy to create a stand-alone wireless company. The completion of this transaction is the culmination of this vision," said Dana Waldman, president and chief executive officer of Centerpoint. "Centerpoint will now be positioned to focus our efforts wholly on the optical industry, in order to best take advantage of our extensive expertise in this market," said Waldman. Fresnel will sell the Adaptive Integrated Multi-Rate radio (AIM(TM)) product family developed by the Centerpoint wireless division and the existing development and management team of Fresnel, which will remain unchanged. The AIM systems are designed to dramatically expand throughput and flexibility of broadband wireless networks, bringing high-capacity broadband services closer to the end-user, reducing operational and installation costs and maximizing carriers' revenues.
