ECI Uses Ikanos VDSL-DMT Chipsets

FREMONT, Calif. -- Ikanos Communications, developer of Smart Silicon for Profitable BroadbandTM, today announced that ECI Telecom (Nasdaq:ECIL), a world leader in the Multi-Service Access Gateways, Fiber to the Home/Premise (FTTx) and video over broadband markets, has selected the Ikanos SmartLeapTM VDSL-DMT chipset for use in the ECI flagship product, Hi-FocusTM. ECI's acclaimed platform is a high-density, universal access gateway supporting thousands of multi-mode subscriber lines to deliver next-generation services, including voice, data, and multicast video. Ikanos is the first company to develop programmable silicon solutions to deliver fiber-quality broadband access over single loop copper, enabling ECI's worldwide carrier customers to maximize their existing copper assets.

Ikanos' SmartLeap single-chip architecture provides programmable support for multiple international VDSL-DMT standards, and ATM and Ethernet in one high-performance chipset. By utilizing the Ikanos chipset, ECI developed and integrated VDSL capabilities into their Hi-FocusTM and MiniRAMTM platform line card that offers a full suite of high-speed services for business and residential applications that adapt on demand. The highly integrated architecture allows Ikanos to offer industry-leading port density and enables the design of smaller, simpler products with fewer chip counts. With SmartLeap, ECI can deliver scaleable high-speed services in symmetrical or asymmetrical modes and provide guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for a new standard of excellence in delivering premium quality video applications.

Because Ikanos uses Discrete Multi-Tone line coding, Ikanos-based broadband services are spectrally compatible with existing access services, such as POTS, ISDN, and xDSL. When used in concert with Ikanos' Subscriber Located Equipment (SLE), ECI can develop powerful solutions that provide complete end-to-end programmability, including an auto-configurable interface for simple plug and play subscriber installation.
