SHENZHEN, China -- ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has today announced it is to exclusively install three national-level 800G DWDM optical transmission networks for China Unicom. This is the first time China Unicom has deployed an 800G national backbone network. The system will have a capacity of 800 gigabits per second (Gb/s), the equivalent of transmitting 10 million simultaneous phone calls every second.

"As 3G networks are deployed in China it is essential that the infrastructure can support the rise in multimedia and other bandwidth intensive applications," said Mr. Han Ling, ZTE's VP of optical transmission marketing. "This network will enable China Unicom to not only support future high-speed applications but also extend its network to more subscribers."
