Summer of LTE: 4G Blooms in UK & US
LTE coverage is filling out across both the U.S. and the U.K. even as it appears that many Brits just don't care about 4G.
In the U.S., AT&T Inc. has just added 10 new markets with LTE coverage. The operator now has 346 live LTE markets. (See AT&T LTE to Be 'Substantially Complete' by Summer 2014.)
These are the new towns with faster AT&T 4G:
- Arkadelphia, Ark.
- Rome, Ga.
- Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
- Ardmore-Ada, Okla.
- Durant, Okla.
- Enid, Okla.
- Ponca City, Okla.
- Charleston, W.Va.
Sprint Corp., meanwhile, is now offering 4G LTE in more than 150 markets having pushed its "Network Vision" upgrades in the first half of 2013. (See Sprint Now Over 150 4G Markets.)
Here's how operators in the U.S. stack up with 4G LTE now:
Back in Blighty, O2 is gearing up to launch LTE in the U.K. in August. The service will start in London, Leeds and Bradford and extend to 10 cities by the end of the year. (See O2 Brings 4G Rivalry to the UK.)
