MUNICH -- The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) will be demonstrating a practical application for m.traction Resource Control at the TransAlp Challenge (July 20 to 27) – the mountain bike race for ambitious bike riders. The mobile data services offers fans and organizers alike huge benefits: On the one hand, they can follow the race of selected racers online via the home pages of the organizer, Upsolut mv.GmbH and Siemens mobile. On the other, the safety level is that much greater because the whereabouts of the rescue teams are known at any time and they can be send to the place of action much faster. As part of a sponsorship agreement, Siemens is not only providing the application and the mobile devices but is also responsible for the running the entire solution. The route of the TransAlp Challenge extends through the western part of the central Alps. Siemens’ mobile data service uses a combination of GPS and GSM; and a total of seven teams have been provided with the relevant devices (GPService Pilot, M50). The particular position of the racer can be pinpointed via satellite in regular intervals to an accuracy of 10 meters via satellite and is then relayed to a central computer. From this computer, the location of the teams can be called up on a scalable map. Standard browsers and zoom functions enable the entire route from Mittenwald to Riva del Garda to be shown on the screen. The tracking covers the lead and tail motorbikes, competitors, doctors, rescue teams and a TV vehicle. For mobile internet access, the organizers and the TV team will use Siemens’ internetpad (SIMpad SL4) and the new Siemens M50 mobile phone, which connects to the internet via GPRS, thus permitting fast access to the mobile data service. Additionally, Siemens technology will help organizer Upsolut mv to post the latest pictures from the tour on the internet (Mobile Picture Messaging). The two rescue teams will be provided with Siemens SX45 mobile phones with a mountable camera that sends photographs to the organizer via GPRS. The pictures can be viewed at the webpages of Upsolute mv.GmbH and Siemens mobile. Siemens Information and Communications Networks Inc.
