OTTAWA and RESTON, Va. -- Third Brigade (www.thirdbrigade.com), a security software company that specializes in intrusion prevention systems (IPS), today announced its product has been selected by Versatel Networks. Versatel is a leading provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateway and service delivery solutions for telecommunications service providers. Its VoIP solutions deliver applications that enable service providers to grow their business and participate in the evolution of IMVoIM, WiMax, WiFi and other IP deployments.

VoIP is becoming a mission critical application for businesses. Fueled by the dramatic improvements in VoIP products and services, the number of deployments is rapidly increasing. Frost and Sullivan forecasts $8.5 billion worldwide in VoIP equipment spending by 2007. Customers increasingly expect security to be architected into their solutions. As such, ensuring the security of VoIP applications is central to the continued growth of this market.

“With a commitment to delivering carrier-class reliability, and to exceeding the expectations of end-use customers, we continuously evaluate innovative new technologies that will further improve the reliability and value proposition of our products,” said Robert Mimeault, Versatel Networks CEO. “We have found that other solutions were cumbersome and couldn’t come close to Third Brigade’s state-of-the-art technology in terms of simplifying and strengthening our security architecture while maintaining high system performance.”

Third Brigade Deep Security is ideally suited to the needs of VoIP, telecom and other embedded applications. It was architected from the ground up for intrusion prevention, and is not intrusive. Deep Security’s optimized deep packet inspection algorithm minimizes CPU and memory impact to the host. Multiple filter types (smart, vulnerability and exploit) are organized into compact profiles that protect vulnerabilities in operating system and application software.

“Third Brigade has extensive telecom industry experience, and understands the premium that leading carriers, and telecom manufacturers like Versatel, place on performance and reliability,” said Wael Mohamed, President and CEO of Third Brigade. “The quick, seamless integration of Third Brigade Deep Security into Versatel’s VoIP product further highlights the value of our host-based intrusion prevention software for VoIP providers.”
