OTTAWA -- Nakina Systems Inc. ("Nakina"), a provider of multi-vendor security and element management solutions to network operators worldwide, has announced the launch of Security Management 4.0, the latest release of its centralized solution for security and password administration on large, multi-vendor networks. MCI has already deployed Nakina's Security Management solution, as announced earlier this year. A second Tier 1 IXC recently completed successful lab trials and is in discussions with Nakina concerning deployment of the solution.

In part, the attraction of Release 4.0 is that it is among the first carrier-class solutions compliant with emerging standards being driven by ANSI (ATIS T1.276-2003) and ITU-T (M.3016). Nakina's Security Management 4.0 allows security administrators for large telecom and data networks to:

  • Eliminate the headache of managing scripts by moving to one centralized system for security and password administration;

  • Eradicate "swivel chair" management by consolidating security administration onto one platform;

  • Eliminate shared passwords with the ability to assign each network operator his or her own unique user ID and password, regardless of network element limitations. This is in contrast to today when network operators are forced to share a limit of five or six accounts on any one network element;

  • Avoid inadvertent network outages with the ability to restrict operator privileges to the exact set of network element commands warranted by the role assigned to an individual handling network operations;

  • Keep centralized logs of all user activity in the network.

Rob Saloman, Nakina's Vice President of Sales & Marketing, explains: "Service providers have been handcuffed by a lack of intelligent automation tools for security administration coupled with sometimes weak security features built into networking equipment software. Nakina's solution creates a new layer of security that creates an opportunity to achieve a number of tasks, including the creation of unique user IDs and passwords for all operations personnel, customizing their command privileges, and centrally logging all activity for future auditing should the need arise."
