LONDON -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - News) today announced that it has signed contracts with six new European Value Added Distributors (VADs) to resell Lucent's Bell Labs-developed comprehensive security portfolio as part of their larger IT offerings to resellers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecom carriers, and enterprises.

  • The new Value Added Distributors are:

  • Exer Datacom (France)

  • Micro BR (Spain)

  • Redco Telematica S.p.A. (Italy)

  • Veracomp S.A. (Poland)

  • VUMS DataCom spol. s r.o. (Czech Republic)

  • Wick Hill (U.K.)

These new partnerships will enable VADs and their reseller and carrier clients to directly offer solutions to enterprises through the full suite of Lucent's award-winning, carrier-grade network and security components -- a portfolio that spans the full spectrum of network security from firewall and VPN functionality to robust bandwidth management and secure mobile data networking. Lucent's comprehensive security portfolio include the VPN Firewall Brick IP services portfolio, the Lucent Security Management Server and the Lucent IPSec Client.

With this announcement, Lucent is introducing a two-tier channel model in Europe, providing leading national IT distributors with the technology, products, and support infrastructure to sell best-in-class solutions for delivering secure VOIP and data networking applications to local security resellers, systems integrators, ISPs and smaller carriers.

"We are pleased to announce new VAD partners in Europe, which is the first region where we are launching our new two-tier security distribution model," says John Poole, Director, Global Partner Programs, Lucent Technologies. "This supports our overall global strategy to leverage our hardware, software, and management tools to deliver carrier-grade security solutions that meet the needs of enterprise customers."

"Signing up new Value Added Distributors will give us better coverage and greater reach in Europe's fragmented, highly competitive security market," says Jan Zuurbier, Director Global Business Partners, Lucent Technologies Europe. "Through VADs, and their network of experienced security reseller partners, we can extend our expertise and leverage our Bell Labs innovations to address the complex security needs of enterprise customers."
