Data Loss Is the Worst Security Issue – TeliaSonera
Nordic operator's chief security officer discusses the increasing security threat to communications service providers in a complex, smartphone-dominated, IP-oriented world.

The theft of customer data in an attack that compromises users' privacy is more serious than a security breach that causes a network outage, according to Håkan Kvarnström, chief security officer at Telia Company , the Nordic carrier with operations in multiple markets throughout Europe and Eurasia.
"Of course, it's serious if the network goes down, but that's reversible -- we can do something about it," he told Light Reading during a recent interview. Once the network has been restored, there is no further damage to the customer he noted. "That's not as far-reaching as losing data."
Kvarnström also noted that increasing complexity -- of networks, IT, devices, and applications -- is the major threat to an operator's security.
