PARIS -- Libon’s Open Chat technology means that chatting and sharing audio, photos and more is no longer restricted to a specific app or platform. Libon users can now instant message with any of their contacts regardless of what messaging service they use, or whether they use none at all. As long as their contact has a mobile or tablet with an HTML5 browser, Libon can share a chat session with that person – even on a PC.

“With the proliferation of messaging apps and services, users now face an over-complicated process when they want to chat with a friend,” said Luc Bretones, Executive Vice President, Orange Technocentre and Orange Vallée. “We have developed a service that means users of Libon no longer need to worry about what app or service their friends use to communicate. They can message and share information without thinking about it. Orange is committed to providing the best communications services to our customers, and Libon is increasingly central to our rich communications strategy.”

Libon users can also take advantage of all the features already available with this all-in-one communications app: instant messaging, free and unlimited high definition voice over IP calls between Libon users on Wi-Fi or, with the Premium option, to any landline or mobile in more than 40 countries, as well as smart visual voicemail.

Orange is also announcing that Libon, which is joyn compatible today, will become the group’s consumer app for all joyn enabled services at Orange.

Whether communicating with contacts who have joyn enabled devices, Libon apps installed, or simply a mobile with a capable browser – Libon will allow customers to enjoy rich communications and messaging with all of their contacts.

Orange is committed to launching joyn across its footprint. Today, Orange has launched joyn in France and Spain, and is conducting trials in Luxembourg, Poland, Romania and Slovakia with more countries to come throughout 2014. Libon will be the consumer app for new joyn launches, and will replace the ‘joyn by Orange’ apps in France and in Spain that are available today.

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Orange will be demonstrating the first international joyn connection, with Orange using the Libon app to communicate with a Deutsche Telekom joyn-enabled app – highlighting the flexibility of Libon to work as an OTT service, or with the latest operator-grade standards.

Orange is accelerating the roll-out of native joyn mobiles in France and in other Orange European countries, to rapidly grow the number of joyn users.
