NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport solutions, today announced that NBN Co is extending the rollout of its nationwide optical transport network with deployment of a high-capacity fiber optic ring built upon the Coriant® hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform. Spanning over 10,000 kilometers in Western Australia, the fiber optic ring will enable NBN Co to expand the capacity of its backbone network and enhance the delivery of fast broadband services to businesses and consumers in the region.

The new fiber optic ring represents a significant extension to NBN Co’s transcontinental optical transport backbone that is built on 60,000 kilometers of fiber configured in over 100 fiber rings nationwide. Currently deployed in over 850 operational sites, the hiT 7300 is a 96-channel coherent optical communications system that supports the transmission of 100G per channel for a total system capacity of up to 9.6 terabits per second (Tbps) per fiber pair. This high-density, low latency solution enables NBN Co to maximize utilization of its existing fiber infrastructure while providing the resilient foundation for future-proof scalability of up to 13 Tbps per fiber pair as demand for backbone capacity grows over time. Management of the NBN Co transit network is supported by the Coriant® Transport Network Management System (TNMS), an end-to-end management platform that enables operators to accelerate service provisioning and reduce operating expenses.

“We are pleased to continue our strategic partnership with NBN Co as they expand the capacity, reach and performance of their fiber optic infrastructure,” said Pat DiPietro, Chief Executive Officer, Coriant. “Our end-to-end support for the National Broadband Network encompasses not only best-in-class optical transport technologies, but also a comprehensive range of world-class planning, design, logistics, implementation, and support services that enable NBN Co to meet critical deployment timelines and ensure the highest level network and service availability.”

Coriant will showcase its comprehensive portfolio of SDN-enabled packet optical transport solutions at OFC 2015, the largest global conference and exposition for optical communications, which takes place from March 24-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, California. Highlights at the Coriant Exhibit Booth (#525) will include packet optical transport innovation, advances in flexi-grid, flexi-rate and super-channel technologies, and dynamic network control based on the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution and TNMS.
