Apple to Lean on Unisys?
12:45 PM Report says partnership is in place to woo big business and government agencies
October 26, 2010
12:45 PM -- Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) has got itself some IT systems integration expertise to land big business and government contracts for products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mactintosh computers, according to a Bloomberg report.
That extra know-how comes from Unisys Corp. (NYSE: UIS). Gene Zapfel, a Unisys managing partner, told Bloomberg in an interview that the company will provide "maintenance and other services" to companies that buy Apple products and that the contract with Apple was signed this month.
Unisys and Apple are hardly strangers, though. Unisys has developed iPhone apps for government agencies already, and the company is even profiled on Apple's Website. As part of the new partnership, the report notes that Unisys expects to create more apps and introduce features for securing information sent over the devices.
Unisys could do with a good news boost today after reporting disappointing third-quarter results.
