9:25 AM New OS doesn't show at Nokia World
September 14, 2010
9:25 AM -- LONDON -- Nokia World -- Anyone hoping to see new devices based on MeeGo -- the Linux-based operating system that Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) and Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) are developing -- by now will be nursing their disappointment with extra helpings of tiny pastries here at Nokia World. (See 'Nokia Is Back!')
Nokia executive VP of markets Niklas Savander said early on that, "We will make no MeeGo product launches today."
The MeeGo OS is important to Nokia's efforts to regain some leadership in the smartphone market, since Nokia intends to base all of its smartphones either on Symbian or MeeGo.
So why the wait? That's not entirely clear yet. But it is expected that more details will be ready for a MeeGo developers conference in November in Dublin.
Meantime, pass the pastries, please…
