Verizon Launches DSL and VoIP Bundle

Verizon unveiled an aggressively priced DSL and voice over IP (VoIP) service bundle in a move to counter cable IP telephone service deployments in its territory by Cablevision Systems, Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications. The bundle offers Verizon's 1.5 Mbps DSL service at $29.95 per month with its VoiceWing VoIP service for $29.95 a month for the first six months. Thereafter, VoiceWing is $39.95 per month for a package that includes unlimited local and long-distance calling, as well as calling features like voice mail, call waiting and caller ID.On the cable side, Cablevision has pushed the envelope on triple-play pricing, offering its video, data and voice services for $29.95 each per month for a year. Other MSOs have griped about Cablevision's strategy, concerned it could put pressure on their own pricing schemes. We say: way to go Cablevision. It's refreshing to see an MSO on the attack against satellite and DSL for a change.
