There's good news and bad news for TV and cable programmers in Nielsen's latest "Three-Screen Report": The good news is the average American watches about 153 hours of traditional linear TV programming every month, an increase of about two hours and 49 minutes since last year. The bad news? Over the past year, DVR use grew 40 percent and online video grew 50 percent.

Elemental Technologies says it can encode more videos faster and cheaper than existing transcoding platforms by using graphical processing units for transcoding instead of just relying on a server's central processing unit.

Netflix subscribers can now access the online video rental service, including their DVD Queues and Instant Queues, via Microsoft's Windows Media Center.
