Former Alcatel Exec Detained

4:15 PM -- While Alcatel SA (NYSE: ALA; Paris: CGEP:PA) is celebrating a win at SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC), the former head of its Costa Rican operations is being held in connection with a government corruption scandal. The former Alcatel executive, Edgar Valverde, has been detained by authorities in connection with the same scandal surrounding Miguel Angel Rodriguez, the former president of Costa Rica, several sources are reporting.
