Deutsche Telekom appoints Anton Hendrik Schaaf as CTO and Peter Thomas Sany as CIO

BONN, Germany -- Deutsche Telekom is establishing the positions of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO). Both positions are intended to make a major contribution to support the development of the Deutsche Telekom Group as the leading service provider in the industry.

Anton Hendrik Schaaf (51) will start work as CTO on June 16, 2005. Schaaf will be responsible for the key functions of technology and innovation in the Group, which are being combined to create a new unit, and thus also takes over as head of research & development in the Group. Anton Schaaf has been working for Siemens since 1987 and was appointed to the Board of Management of Information and Communication Networks (ICN) from January 1, 2001. There he was head of the business units Carrier Networks and Carrier Service, as well as the regions Asia / Australia and CIS. Schaaf has been CTO and member of the Siemens Communications Board of Management since October 2004. He began his professional career at Philips.

Peter Thomas Sany (46) will become CIO at Deutsche Telekom on September 1, 2005 and will be responsible for Information Management and Processes. Mr. Sany is currently CTO and deputy CEO at Avaloq, a software company for financial service providers in Switzerland. He was group CIO and responsible for the pharmaceuticals division of Novartis from 1997 to 2003. Before that, Mr. Sany spent 14 years working at IBM in various functions. The magazine Computerwoche chose Peter Sany as "IT executive of the year" for 2003.

Mr. Schaaf and Mr. Sany will report to Christopher Schläffer, who, as Corporate Development Officer at Deutsche Telekom, is responsible for the functions of corporate strategy, technology & innovation, information management & processes, as well as internal consulting. The Corporate Development unit, of which Mr. Schläffer has been head since October 2004, reports directly to the Chairman of the Board of Management, Kai-Uwe Ricke.
