Alltel Does LTE

5:00 PM -- Alltel Corp. (NYSE: AT) says it will follow larger rivals AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Verizon Wireless and deploy so-called fourth-generation network services using long-term evolution (LTE) wireless technology in the next three to five years.

The company doesn't have any of the 700 MHz spectrum that AT&T and Verizon grabbed at auction this year, however, so the question must be what radio space it will use to deploy these next-gen services. The operator must be looking for LTE that will run over the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz CDMA bands it already runs.
