DoCoMo Picks Airespace WLAN
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Airespace, Inc. announced today that DoCoMo Communication Laboratories USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT DoCoMo USA, has chosen Airespace to supply the 802.11 network for their Silicon Valley campus. The Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform provides DoCoMo USA Labs a rock solid network infrastructure upon which they can explore innovative applications and related technologies that enable next generation mobile networks.
"DoCoMo USA Labs requires a robust wireless LAN infrastructure that is flexible enough to support all of our wireless research initiatives", said Dr. Minoru Etoh, president and CEO of DoCoMo USA Labs. "We chose the Airespace solution because it continuously performs in a reliable fashion, regardless of what new technologies are thrown at it."
DoCoMo USA Labs was formed in November 1999 to exploit and reflect two areas of expertise: Silicon Valley's excellence in information technology and Japan's leading role in mobile telecommunication technology. Taking advantage of this unique synergy, the USA laboratory is now making significant contributions in several research areas: seamless communication environments, overlay services over heterogeneous networks, mobile multimedia processing and coding, IP-based mobility, security protocols, and mobile applications. The Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform supports these endeavors by providing a business critical wireless LAN foundation upon which many of these research programs can be explored.
"DoCoMo is the market leader in the advancement of mobile data and voice applications and services," said Alan Cohen, vice president of marketing at Airespace. "By selecting Airespace, they have provided us with an ideal environment to work with leading edge wireless technologies going forward."
