SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- November 3, 2015 (NXTWORK 2015) – Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), the industry leader in network innovation, today at its inaugural NXTWORK 2015 Customer Summit announced an expansion of its Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) portfolio that enables service providers to create and automatically deploy new services faster than ever before at industry-leading scale. Juniper’s new Cloud CPE, a fully automated, end-to-end network functions virtualization solution, builds on the proven ability of Juniper Networks Contrail Networking to scale across all models – whether on-premises or in the cloud – to make service delivery from an end user’s perspective as easy as downloading a new app from iTunes.

Customers now expect networks to be on-demand, personalized, and require services to be delivered in near real-time. Today’s rigid, hardware-centric network infrastructures, however, render this impossible and it can be months before a customer receives an ordered service. As such, global service providers are looking to software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV to automate cumbersome manual tasks and increase agility in rolling out virtually managed services at the touch of a button, resulting in greater revenue-generating opportunities, lower costs and enhanced customer satisfaction.

To make this a reality, Juniper today is expanding its NFV portfolio with Cloud CPE. This includes Contrail Service Orchestration, a comprehensive management and orchestration platform to deliver and manage virtualized network services, such as virtual security, and the NFX250, the first in a series of network services platforms that can operate as secure, on-premises devices running multiple virtual network functions, from Juniper and third-parties, simultaneously.

Built with an eye toward open standards for which Juniper is known, Contrail Service Orchestration is designed to operate in multi-vendor network environments and can orchestrate the entire service lifecycle – from service design to activation – to radically improve the user experience and enable new service revenue.

The NFX250, when used as part of Juniper’s Cloud CPE solution, eliminates the operational complexities associated with deploying multiple boxes at the customer site, as it is capable of running myriad virtual functions on a single software-driven device, thereby significantly reducing cost. With this, service providers now have the ability to update network functions without having to purchase new hardware.

Juniper’s expanded technology portfolio builds upon other recently announced solutions, including Contrail Networking, Juniper Networks vSRX Virtual Firewall and the Juniper Networks NorthStar Controller, all unveiled in 2013, as well as the Juniper Networks vMX virtual router and Contrail Cloud Platform announced in 2014. With these developments, Juniper is delivering the industry’s most comprehensive virtualization portfolio to enable service scale and agility in the most open way possible.

In a separate release:

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), the industry leader in network innovation, today unveiled at its inaugural NXTWORK 2015 Customer Summit a disaggregated version of Juniper Networks® Junos® software to provide customers with ultimate choice in data center deployment options. Through disaggregation of Junos software, customers will have the ability to deploy third-party network services or applications directly on Juniper platforms as well as have the option to program directly to Juniper systems using the supported Open Compute Project (OCP) defined software model. Juniper also introduced the Juniper Networks QFX5200 series of access switches as the first platform to run the disaggregated Junos as well as the emerging 25 and 50 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) standard. Combined, the switches and software will provide industry leading network automation and programmability, while providing flexibility in purchasing hardware separately from software with a pay-for-what-you-need software-licensing model.

Additionally, Juniper today highlighted the rapid implementation of its Juniper Networks MetaFabric™ Architecture and Juniper Networks Contrail software-defined networking (SDN) technologies across leading converged and hyper-converged stack solutions, helping customers simplify and scale their data center and cloud infrastructures, while ensuring long-term investment protection.

Disaggregated Junos Software Enables Server-Like Functionality with Most Complete Suite of Networking Services

  • For the first time, customers will be able to develop and install third-party applications directly on supported Juniper switching systems with the disaggregated Junos software as well as run the disaggregated Junos software on Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) compliant third-party switches.

    • Using an open platform approach, Juniper provides open access to Linux so customers can freely orchestrate third-party applications using Openstack, Apache, Netconf or other tools. This new level of network services modularity enables easy integration with customer applications, SDN controllers and orchestration tools.

    • With support for MPLS, BGP, EVPN-VXLAN and the most robust L2/L3 feature set in the industry, Juniper gives customers options to design, architect and automate the ideal overlay network with the best underlay infrastructure.

    • A new pricing model for the QFX5200 will allow customers to purchase Junos and the QFX5200 hardware platform together or separately.

QFX5200 Switches Bolster Bandwidth Performance with 25/50GbE Ethernet Standards Support

    • Next-generation QFX5200 access switches with multi-speed capability from 10G to 100GbE enable customers to migrate to higher port speeds and support 25G/50GbE without costly upgrades. With 25GbE, customers get 2.5 times the performance over existing cabling infrastructure.

    • QFX5200 switches support the disaggregated version of Junos, combining high-performance switching with the flexibility, power and functionality of a quad-core server CPU.

    • Managed through Junos Space Network Director, customers can control the entire enterprise network through a single pane of glass. Additionally, with support of VMware vRealize Operations management pack, in addition to the already supported VMware vSphere’s vCenter, users have visibility into the health, capacity and performance of the enterprise network infrastructure, further simplifying physical and virtual network control and management.

MetaFabric and Contrail Solutions Adopted Across Industry Leading Converged and Hyper-Converged Stack Solutions

    • Juniper’s proven MetaFabric and Contrail solutions have been selected for industry leading converged stack platforms, providing customers with an open, plug-and-play infrastructure to quickly deploy data center and cloud networks.

    • In collaboration with key partners, Juniper is helping customers simplify their data center infrastructure by providing validated reference architectures, which includes assurance of technology interoperability, ease of deployment and joint support services.

    • Juniper solutions are being integrated into several industry-leading converged stack solutions with global partners, including FusionStorm, InterCloud Systems, InterVision, ITQAN, Redapt, Technica and Virtual Armor.
