Automic Nabs OpenStack Guru From CenturyLink

SEATTLE -- AUTOMIC, the leader in Business Automation, today announced that IT industry veteran John Purrier has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. Purrier will play a key role in shaping AUTOMIC's technology strategy as the company embarks on its next phase of growth.

Todd DeLaughter, Chief Executive Officer, stated, "John brings to AUTOMIC a unique blend of experience spanning the breadth of modern computing - from storage and networking to platform-as-a-service, Cloud and DevOps. He has great experience in driving interoperability across cloud platforms, has directed product development in established enterprise vendors and startups, is a true technologist and a proven strategist. I am delighted to welcome John to AUTOMIC".

Purrier, with more than 20 years of IT industry leadership experience, was most recently CTO of CenturyLink Innovation Labs focusing on new and emerging cloud technologies, including multi-cloud interoperability and DevOps.

Prior to joining AUTOMIC, John:

  • Was a Founder and Board Member of OpenStack.

    • Was the Strategic and Technology leader for the largest commercial public and private Cloud Foundry-based Cloud Platform-as-a-Service (AppFog).

    • Led all of R&D for the Rackspace Cloud where he directly managed and directed the team that delivered ‘Swift’, the highly scalable object store that underpins Rackspace Cloud Files and OpenStack Storage.

    • Headed the development and delivery of the first three releases of Microsoft Exchange Server. Here he built the team from 10 people to 350 and managed design/architecture, development, program management, test, and customer satisfaction teams.
