  • It's major management shake-up time at Norway's Telenor Group (Nasdaq: TELN), with nine executives being culled from the top table as part of a restructuring exercise that will kick in on March 1. The new-look Telenor will be organized into four "clusters": Scandinavia; Central and Eastern Europe; Emerging Asia; and (here's a new one) Mature Asia. • BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) has done a deal with Trend Micro Inc. to incorporate the Tokyo-based security specialist's Deep Security data center offering on its Cloud Compute platform in 19 countries across Europe. Deep Security is intended to act as a barrier against malware, ransomware and other nasties.

    • Cato Networks , an Israel-based company that describes itself as "the world's first software-defined and cloud-based network with built-in enterprise security," has expanded its management team across the EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions with the addition of Alon Alter and Stree Naidu. Alter, previously at Incapsula, will be Cato's EMEA man, responsible for all sales, business development and partner acquisition efforts.

    • Telefónica has teamed up with electronic gaming company ESL in a bid to grab a bigger slice of the so-called e-sports action and help shrink its debt pile. For more details, see this story on our sister site, Telecoms.com.

    • Switzerland's Sunrise Communications AG has joined FreeMove Alliance , the collaborative venture between Orange (NYSE: FTE), Telecom Italia (TIM) , Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) and Telia Company that helps deliver mobile services to multinational companies by synchronizing the expertise of its members. FreeMove will now be able to access Sunrise's mobile network, which is currently being readied for 4G+ technology.

    • Spain has been identified, along with the US, as one of the two most prolific countries when it comes to originating fraudulent mobile calls. The findings come in a report from Syniverse Technologies LLC , which cited Spain's high number of overseas visitors as a significant factor behind its mobile fraud problem. For more details, see this story on sister site Telecoms.com.

    • Deutsche Telekom's IT services arm, T-Systems International GmbH , has joined forces with Roambee, a Silicon Valley-based "smart logistics" firm. As part of the global IoT agreement, Roambee will provide software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications that include wireless portable sensors and cloud-based software to help transport companies keep tabs on their trucks and the contents therein.

Assistant Editor, Europe, Light Reading

Paul is based on the Isle of Wight, a rocky outcrop off the English coast that is home only to a colony of technology journalists and several thousand puffins.

He has worked as a writer and copy editor since the age of William Caxton, covering the design industry, D-list celebs, tourism and much, much more.

During the noughties Paul took time out from his page proofs and marker pens to run a small hotel with his other half in the wilds of Exmoor. There he developed a range of skills including carrying cooked breakfasts, lying to unwanted guests and stopping leaks with old towels.

Now back, slightly befuddled, in the world of online journalism, Paul is thoroughly engaged with the modern world, regularly firing up his VHS video recorder and accidentally sending text messages to strangers using a chipped Nokia feature phone.
