ATLANTA -- Supercomm 2001 -- Today, Nortel Networks will unveil at SUPERCOMM 2001, a series new technologies and alliances, that will further enable companies andservice providers to profit from the high-performance internet; by reducingthe cost of networking and accelerating delivery of new revenue-generating services. A summary of the announcements as follows:* Connect PX photonic switch, Nortel Networks will offer the firstlive demonstration of the OPTera Connect PX photonic switch. The PXredirects light from one optical fibre to another, without electronicalconversion. To do this it uses micro-electro mechanical switch/system(MEMS) that has tiny movable mirrors. PX advantages include; cost, sizeandbit-rate transparency.* Shasta* 5000 Broadband Service Node and Alteon*, again NortelNetworks will use a demo to show how service providers can increaseprofitability by more easily offering differentiated value-addedservicesthrough content filtering, automatic redirection to personal portals,delivery of streaming media and end user self administration. It willalsoshow how a typical family subscriber might enjoy these personalisedservices. * Mobile Multimedia IP (M3IP), Nortel Networks will illustrate accessand data delivery across wireless and terrestrial technologies usingSessionInitiated Protocol (SIP) and Enhanced Mobile IP (E-MIP) calls.* Carrier Voice over IP and Internet Telephony, Nortel Networks willshow case the industry's most complete Internet Telephony portfolio forservice providers, which enables delivery of new cost saving servicesthrough mobility, multimedia and personalization for high performanceapplications for companies.* Nortel Networks and EMC will demonstrate the industry's first networked storage solution, capable of accessing the speed andcapacity of the optical network on demand, enabling businesses to access mission-critical information five to 15 times faster than before. * IBM and Nortel Networks today unveil joint solutions that will allow established and emerging service providers to address the dynamic new challenges of e-business and applications hosting, allowing them to outsource the entire Internet and ebusiness infrastructure of acompany. * Nortel Networks and Juniper Networks will display Optical Virtual Private Networks (OVPN) service displayed.
