COPENHAGEN -- NetTest will introduce at SUPERCOMM 2001 its masterQUEST advanced management solutions designed to support the growth of progressive service providers with a complete intelligence resource for monitoring and analyzing the performance of emerging networks. NetTest's masterQUEST gives the wireless and wireline service providers of today and tomorrow the most robust, comprehensive set of tools for observing and proactively addressing network performance trends and individual events. The solution dynamically extracts critical information in real time directly from the network, thereby creating an independent assurance solution based directly on the data produced by each transaction.

Having a wide range of potential applications, masterQUEST generates network-wide, multi-protocol call/data correlation for all parameters. This is particularly important when considering the complexity of tracing calls end-to-end over mobile and fixed networks where generation of high quality call detail recording is required in domains such as GPRS access and an IP backbone.

The initial application is masterQUEST GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), the industry's first complete management solution for validating connections and Quality of Service in emerging mobile Internet services. MasterQUEST GPRS combines voice and datacom monitoring, providing a full, real-time overview down to the packets running on combined GSM and GPRS networks, and with scalability up to hundreds of thousands of users. The solution features Call Trace, a key competitive differentiator that traces calls throughout the SS/7, GSM/PCS/GPRS and IN networks by specifying a telephone number (or part of it). No set-up prior to the call is needed and therefore routing knowledge is not required. As call data is stored in the probes for up to two weeks, tracing can be performed days after the call has been initiated and/or completed. MasterQUEST's Call Trace feature automatically identifies the link (s) on which the call signaling was transmitted from all levels (local, regional, central). No prior knowledge of the call's routing through the network is needed. Call trace for GPRS covers both the SS/7 and IP domains, and collects call information independent of the protocols used for specific parts of the network. This enables staff with little or no protocol knowledge to assume many of the responsibilities that were previously the responsibility of expensive and scarce engineers.

The next in a series of masterQUEST applications will also debut in Atlanta: MaterQUEST VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is among the industry's first complete management solutions for monitoring and testing complex multi-protocol environments. MasterQUEST VoIP assists backbone carriers in defining QoS objectives for the IP network, which the system will translate into threshold values. In the event any values are transgressed, an alarm is sent to the integrated alarm-handling module in real time. The values can be set so that the alarm occurs before the QoS dips below the level defined in the SLA. MasterQUEST VoIP also assists access providers by monitoring application-based services inside the IP network, effectively documenting that apps are running at the specified level of quality.
