PITTSBURGH and ATLANTA -- SuperComm 2001--Marconi (NASDAQ and London: MONI), a global provider of advanced communications solutions, today announced the SmartPhotoniX(TM)UPLx160(TM) an ultra-long haul photonic line system capable of unprecedented transmission distances, significantly reducing carrier operating costs. The UPLx160 will be demonstrated at Marconi's booth #5324 during Supercomm 2001 this week in Atlanta, Georgia, and will become available worldwide during the fall of 2001. The soliton-based SmartPhotoniX UPLx160 represents considerable advances in key areas of optical networking while offering customers substantial cost savings.
