360networks Goes to Singapore

VANCOUVER and SINGAPORE -- 360networks today announced it has been granteda license to own and operate telecommunications infrastructure inSingapore, a major telecommunications hub in the Asia-Pacific region. Thelicense is the first of six that 360networks plans to obtain in Asia thisyear.

By the end of this year, 360networks will offer colocation services incombination with optical and IP services on 360asia, an undersea networkit is developing jointly with C2C - a subsidiary of SingaporeTelecommunications. Operating independently of C2C, 360asia will offertotal system capacity of 1.92 terabits per second and link Singapore withHong Kong, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.By mid-2002, 360asia will connect with 360pacific, a transpacific underseanetwork that will span 22,000 kilometers (13,600 miles) and link Japan,the United States and Canada.

“This is an important step to becoming a leading provider of networkservices in the Asia-Pacific region,” said John Tull, president of360networks’ Asia division. “There is tremendous demand for broadbandcapacity between Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo, as well as connectivitybetween these hubs and North America.”
