EFL Brings Zyxel WiFi to U.K.

ALDERMASTON, U.K. -– Electronic Frontier Ltd (EFL) has today announced the UK launch of the ZyAIR family of Wireless LAN products from ZyXEL Communications Corporation. The product range includes a Wireless gateway with 4-port switch, an Access Point (AP), a PC Card, a PCI Card, a USB Adapter and an Ethernet Adapter and is immediately available from local, mail-order and web-based resellers.

The ZyAIR products operate in the unlicensed 2.4GHz ISM band and are capable of data rates of up to 11Mbps. Designed for the residential and small office networking markets, ZyAIR offers simple-to-install, reliable and cost effective solutions that do not comprise network security.

The ZyAIR B-1000 is a stand-alone Access Point, delivering a low cost wireless connection for sharing existing broadband services. Each unit is equipped with two omni-directional 2dBi antennas to provide a clear radio signal between the wireless stations and the access points. The units also feature specially designed status LEDs for simple diagnostics.

The ZyAIR B-2000 is a broadband router with an 802.11b Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) certified Access Point and Internet sharing functionality. A built-in 4-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch allows offices with existing wired networks to share high-speed DSL/Cable connections.

In addition to the normal WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) and MAC address security facilities, the ZyAIR B-1000 and B-2000 Access Points incorporate facilities for IEEE 802.1x user authentication. For Enterprise users, this enables secure wireless networks to be built around a RADIUS server(s); Access Points can be configured to only enable connections to Wireless clients that negotiate valid username and password with the server using EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol). In addition, the Access Points incorporate internal 32 account authentication servers for smaller networks without a RADIUS server.

Developed for ease of installation and flexible deployment, both the ZyAIR B-1000 and ZyAIR B-2000 are setup and managed through an auto-run setup wizard and a web-based configurator. Desk and wall-mounting options allow for additional units to be incorporated into a wireless network for an overall increased coverage area.

ZyAIR's wireless client adaptors allow users to connect a full range of computing devices to their wireless networks. The adapters include a PC card, model ZyAIR B-100; a USB adapter, model ZyAIR B-200; a PCI card, model ZyAIR B-300; and an Ethernet adapter, model ZyAIR B-400.

The ZyAIR units have a Typical Selling Price of £149 (excl. VAT) for the B-1000 and £189.00 (excl. VAT) for the B-2000.
