LONDON -- Bulldog Communications, the high-speed broadband specialist, today introduced its own self-install, Wireless LAN (WLAN) solution for home and small business users. Bulldog is offering an easy-to-configure starter package for establishing a home network that can operate free of conventional cabling. The solution allows shared use of a broadband Internet connection and is readily expandable to enable multi-user access to network and print servers.

For home usage, Bulldog’s WLAN solution will enable, for example, shared access to a broadband Internet connection, networked gaming and e-mail exchange from various remote locations in and around the house, while maintaining simultaneous use of the principal phone line.

For the small business environment, the technology will enable, typically, up to 10 laptops or desktops to wirelessly network through a broadband access router from multiple points in or around the office or home. Applications might include networked access to e-mail, file or print servers, in addition to shared use of a broadband Internet connection. The equipment will also support existing or new Ethernet cabling via a 4-port switch.

The fully comprehensive WLAN solution includes a D-Link DSL-604+ wireless router, D-Link DWL-650+ wireless PCMCIA card (for notebook use) or D-Link DWL-120 wireless USB adapter (for notebook or desktop use), and two D-Link 20MF microfilters. The D-Link DSL-604+ combines the functionality of an ADSL modem, IP router, 4-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet switch and 22 Mbps wireless access point, allowing both fixed and wireless network configurations.

Bulldog is offering this equipment package at a special price of £159.99 + VAT (£187.99 inc. VAT) and is available now from the Bulldog DSL Shop website. Individual items from the pack may also be purchased separately, if required.

The DSL-604+ router employs D-Link’s AirPlus technology to deliver a 22 Mbps wireless link, twice the standard 11 Mbps data rate normally associated with the 802.11b specification, and offers enhanced security through use of 256-bit Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) and packet filtering firewall configuration.

Bulldog’s WLAN solution uses the proven D-Link products offering high functionality and inter-compatibility. The hardware is equally compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems.

Earlier this year, Bulldog introduced a fully managed and installed WLAN product. (See Bulldog press release 24 Febuary 2003). Since then, Bulldog has launched the Bulldog DSL Shop offering customers a range of ADSL and SDSL modems, router / bridges, and accessories for their broadband connection. Bulldog products are competitively priced, such as the best-selling ZyXEL Prestige 630 USB modem, now available for only £ 34.99 + VAT (£ 41.11 inc. VAT).

Richard Greco, CEO of Bulldog, stated, “Bulldog’s DSL Shop site is an essential value-add to our core business of providing the best in DSL broadband connectivity. The self-install WLAN offer is a hassle-free, one-stop-shop solution offering true WiFi experience at superb value.”
