Transforming Wireless Connectivity: Unlocking the Potential of WiFi 6E and 10G with Zyxel

We live and work In the age of ubiquitous streaming services, online gaming, videoconferencing, IoT devices, and other bandwidth-intensive connections. Simply put, legacy WiFi routers and networks are no longer up to the task.

That’s why we’re seeing such enthusiasm for WiFi 6E and wireless technologies – both among end users and providers – that can unlock the potential of the 6Ghz spectrum. It is the future of WiFi, and it’s here.

WiFi 6E and the 6GHz spectrum set the stage for the next generation of wireless connectivity, for both subscribers and providers – more speed, less congestion.

Faster network speeds appeal to virtually everyone. Research conducted by Omdia projects that, by 2027, nearly one-third (32%) of global broadband subscriptions will be 1Gps or faster.

The broad appeal of 6E-based WiFi solutions lies in the technology’s ability to optimize bandwidth utilization and increase network capacity – delivering ultra-fast speeds and the ability to support multiple bandwidth-intensive streams simultaneously with no performance degradation.

That’s the overarching driver of increasing interest and demand. A report from Emergen Research projects the overall WiFi 6 market to grow at a rate of 17.1% CAGR between 2019 and 2032. It estimated the WiFi 6 market value at $11.59 billion in 2022.

For providers, this represents a significant new opportunity to deliver exceptional, ultra-fast 10G WiFi solutions to customers. That’s embedded in the DNA of Zyxel’s MPro Mesh Solutions and its EX7710 WiFi 6E 10G Ethernet Gateway, which give providers and end users super-fast, corner-to-corner WiFi networks that are 6E and 10G ready.

The Zyxel EX7710 offers the throughput necessary to achieve 10Gb in and out, without a bottle neck. The EX7710 has a through and through non-blocking design with 10G WAN Ethernet and a matching 10G LAN Ethernet port.

Based on WiFi 6E technology, the Zyxel EX7710 delivers speeds of up to 4.8 Gbpson the 6 GHz band and 4.8 Gbps* on the 5 GHz band and 1.1 Gbps* on 2.4 GHz with an average throughput that’s faster than 11ac. The EX7710 is also a tri-band router that offers 2.4G and 5G networks for subscribers, and that brings 6E into the 6GHz spectrum.

The ability to deliver true 10G solutions is critical for providers. In plain terms, this is what your end users want: super-fast, reliable, easy-to-manage WiFi that covers the entire home, whether you're running a video meeting or watching a movie – or whether multiple users are running multiple streams on multiple devices simultaneously. It’s also a massive economic opportunity. A report published by Telecom Advisory Services previously estimated that the 10G evolution will generate at least $330 billion in economic output by 2027 in the United States alone.

It’s also a future-proofing mechanism that allows for continuous growth and to meet multiple demand categories within a growing subscriber base. 10Gb Ethernet on a subscriber device allows for providers to scale as needed, offering multiple-gigabit tiers without having to swap out their equipment. This is crucial given the evident growth in demand for gigabit services reflected in Omdia’s projected above.

Zyxel’s EX7710 has other provider-friendly features as well, including the TR-069 standard management specifications. This enables service providers to manage, configure, monitor and diagnose client devices remotely without disrupting end users. This unique capability saves operating time as well as reduces maintenance costs for service providers – a must in a business environment where margins can otherwise get squeezed.

In other words, providers get to offer real-time technical assistance via comprehensive remote management capabilities – fully compliant with EasyMesh standards – while actually reducing OPEX.

For providers and their subscribers, using standards-compliant devices like the EX7710 offer several automation-based advantages:

  • Easy setup: Automatically onboard and configure new devices.

  • Seamless roaming: Automatically match client devices to the best connection with band- and client-steering.

  • Self optimization: the Wi-Fi network continuously works to ensure optimum performance.

Subscribers also get an optimized mobile app for simple setup, access passwords, guest WiFi, internet blocking and other features.

More good news for providers: The EX7710 runs on the same, proven OPAL firmware that powers all Zyxel CPEs, which guarantees the same rich user experience after migrating to new devices.

The 10G evolution, built on WiFi 6E technologies, is very real. As 10G connections become more widely available, subscribers will begin to demand it. They won’t accept anything less because the 10G experience is too good. This is a massive opportunity for providers that are ready to seize it. By offering 10G-ready solutions today, you set yourself up for future growth and success tomorrow.

It is an ideal time to develop a 10G strategy. While 10G services are already available in countries like Japan, South Korea, and Turkey, according to Omdia’s market research, it is still an emerging opportunity with significant untapped potential. Research firm The Brainy Insights predicts the overall WiFi 6 market will approach nearly $43 billion in global value in 2030.

And while 10G may still seem like “the future,” the trends driving its development are already commonplace. The boundaries between work and home have increasingly blurred. We run multiple streams and services on our WiFi networks on a nearly continuous basis. Yet many of these networks are still supported by technologies that were designed years and years ago. That’s where 10G – and the providers who will make it a reality for their subscribers – comes into play.
