Lightwave has been reviewing and presenting the annual innovation awards in optical communications at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition (OFC) for many years. The panel of judges consists of executives, analysts, and engineers from operators and analyst organizations.

50G PON is an all-optical access technology that supports ubiquitous 10 Gbps access. As a leader in the optical access field, Huawei has completed the verification of innovative 50G PON based on the commercial OLT platform on live networks in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Huawei can provide leading features to help operators upgrade their networks to 10G networks, with solutions ready for commercial use this year.

Superior performance: Compared to the previous-generation 10G PON, Huawei's 50G PON not only improves the bandwidth by five times, but also brings industry-leading performance. This is the only 50G PON solution that supports symmetric bandwidth. The Layer 2 service rate is close to the theoretical limit defined in the standard. In addition, Huawei's 50G PON solution reduces the latency by 100 times to meet the requirements of key services. The Dense TDM technology reduces the upstream latency by 97%, reaching the microsecond level. In addition, the innovative triple-mode optical module with an optical power budget as high as 32 dB can implement on-demand upgrade with zero ODN change and one-time OLT deployment, providing an evolution path to 10G services with an optimal TCO.

Premium experience: Emerging new digital services not only require continuous bandwidth upgrade, but also require deterministic user experience. Huawei 50G PON is the only solution in the industry that supports E2E hard slicing and provides deterministic bandwidth experience. It features time division multiplexing (TDM) forwarding and one-hop access to the cloud by the upstream OTN, and meets differentiated service bearer requirements, flexibly supporting deterministic bandwidth from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps, low latency, and low jitter. In this way, one 10G all-optical infrastructure network can provide differentiated SLAs for multiple concurrent services, helping operators continuously improve the value of fiber broadband by experience monetization.

Continuous joint innovation: In China, the Broadband Development Alliance (BDA) released the White Paper on the Commercial Application Scenarios of the 10G Network. Outside China, Omdia, a world-leading consulting firm in the communications industry, also released the Rise of 50G PON and Ubiquitous 10G White Paper. These white papers describe specific and clear new application scenarios of 50G PON, including campus Wi-Fi 7 bearing, industrial AOI quality inspection, 8K 3D live broadcast, ultra-fast 10G cloud NAS, shallow compression-based cloud computer, cloud fitness, and cloud gaming. At the same time, operators are actively working with Huawei to design and verify related services. 10G services will cover various industries such as enterprise campus, digital manufacturing, smart home, and digital city, enabling and accelerating the digital economy.

Huawei has been working with more than 50 leading operators around the world on next-generation 50G PON to fully verify the feasibility and maturity of 50G PON in diversified live network conditions. In the F5G-A 10G era, Huawei will continue to innovate in 50G PON all-optical access, work with operators and industry partners to promote the maturity and large-scale commercial use of 50G PON, continuously build ubiquitous intelligent all-optical access networks, and help operators unleash the value of fibers and build an intelligent world.
