BARCELONA -- MWC -- Metaswitch used this major global event to announce a new customer, a new reseller agreement and a new strategic alliance.

Orange selects Metaswitch Rhino

Orange has selected the Metaswitch Rhino platform as the framework for its Open Service Gateway (OSG), a unified services layer that provides consistency of services and user experience regardless of network type (IN, IMS…). In this role, OSG enables the deployment and interworking of fixed and mobile voice, messaging, video and data services. It is initially being deployed in Orange Egypt.

"With OSG, services are truly future-proofed, providing convergence across both IN and IMS domains, and aligning directly with our Orange Essentials2020 vision," said Maged Gabriel, Orange Egypt Sr. Director, IT & Service Platforms. "This means we are both continuing existing, and deploying new, services that are relevant to our customers, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty to the Orange brand. Our partnership with Metaswitch for the future evolution of Orange Egypt allows us to deploy virtualized, openly extensible service platforms that support both service interworking and service creation."

OSG demands an open service layer to ensure that Orange is in control of service innovation, avoiding vendor lock-in by enabling internal and external development resources to build repeatable “drop-in” applications that can be deployed by any operator across the group. It also enables deployment of a services layer that embraces virtualization and NFV, ensuring that the technology is aligned with the Orange 2020 vision.

HPE signs global reseller agreement

Metaswitch today announced a global resale agreement through Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). In this agreement, Metaswitch’s core network software products, including the Clearwater IMS core and Perimeta session border controller (SBC), will be integrated with HPE’s own virtual network functions and management platforms to deliver end to end virtualized VoLTE, VoWiFi and advanced communications services.

This reseller relationship builds on the previous announcement of the integration of Metaswitch’s Clearwater core with HPE’s infrastructure platforms and NFV Director orchestration platform. The integration accelerates fixed and mobile network operators’ deployments of advanced services including VoLTE and VoWiFi on private, public or hybrid cloud infrastructures.

Metaswitch, Cloudify Team on Automation

Metaswitch and cloud-native orchestration provider Cloudify today announced an agreement through which the two companies are partnering to automate NFV management and orchestration (MANO) for global operators, increasing service agility and reducing service-affecting manual errors. Through this agreement, Metaswitch will OEM Cloudify’s virtual network functions management (VNFM) capabilities in delivery of its own VoLTE TAS, vSBC and vIMS VNFs and the two companies are collaborating closely in customer engagements, bridging gaps in operators’ NFV MANO systems.

"Cloudify and Metaswitch share a long-standing commitment to lowering the barrier to entry for carriers looking to transition to new cloud-native services," said Nati Shalom, CTO, Cloudify. "Together we deliver a simplified solution for achieving a more agile service environment through a convergence of networks and IT systems from an infrastructure and process perspective."

Cloudify is a TOSCA-based open source cloud orchestration platform. Cloudify helps operators, Telcos, and enterprises alike perform a rapid transition from non-virtualized appliance to virtualized, and ultimately a cloud-native one with full lifecycle management and orchestration as well as service function chaining, breaking the heavy, costly, and proprietary black box model of OSS and BSS. Cloudify orchestration is building an ecosystem of open VNFs, and has a track record of delivering open vCPE and open vIMS solutions, as well as edge computing and network orchestration to some of the largest global carriers and enterprises.

"The biggest obstacle to achieving the full potential of NFV is the lack of maturity in the operational automation capabilities of the OSS toolchain," said Martin Taylor, CTO of Metaswitch. "Our integration with Cloudify simplifies and accelerates lifecycle management automation, giving carriers faster, error-free operational management of their cloud-based virtual network infrastructures."
