Rockford Chooses 5G

ROCKFORD, Ill. and MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- ROC-net Services, a regional cooperative of technology and non-profit organizations, and 5G Wireless Communications, Inc. (OTCBB: FGWI), an emerging leader in the wireless broadband industry, jointly announced today that businesses and individuals in Rockford, Illinois will be utilizing 5G’s new “cellular-style” broadband wireless equipment package for public and private high-speed Internet access.

In a press conference held this morning, it was announced that ROC-net Services of Rockford, Illinois, had selected 5G Wireless’ new WiFi base stations to deliver broadband Internet connectivity throughout the city, stretching outward from the heart of downtown Rockford. Three “cellular-style,” 360° rooftop base stations, augmented with indoor units where necessary, will provide blanket coverage for both external public and internal private access.

The event was attended by several high profile state political leaders, including Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and Illinois Congressman Don Manzullo.

5G was selected over competitive scenarios because of its “less is more” hardware protocol, Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) signal penetration technology, ease of installation, reduced network management and overall lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). While the area of the city is relatively flat, there are areas of dense foliage and several substantial building structures which made NLOS capabilities critical.

“Small to mid-size cities like Rockford represent a sizable market opportunity for our metro WiFi product offerings,” stated Jerry Dix, CEO of 5G Wireless Communications. “Smaller cities are often more nimble than larger ones and can benefit from an accelerated evaluation process. Also, our low TCO promise has tremendous value for smaller cities where IT budgets are tight.”
