MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- 5G Wireless Solutions, Inc., an emerging leader in the wireless broadband industry and a wholly-owned subsidiary of 5G Wireless Communications, Inc. (OTCBB: FGWC), announced today that the DeWitt Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New York City is successfully using its Wi-Fi technology to facilitate operations and improve its resident patients’ quality of life.

After reviewing several alternatives, DeWitt selected 5G Wireless Solutions to implement a broadband wireless network throughout its Upper East Side high-rise facility servicing 499 beds. The 5G platform effectively leverages its superior range and “outside-in,” non-line-of-sight (NLOS) capabilities to create a Wi-Fi Hotzone™ throughout the 17 story building. Using only 7 indoor access points, 5G was able to achieve the same coverage as the next nearest competitor who would have required 3 access points per floor, or a total of 54, to cover the building.

According to the American Health Care Association, there are currently 16,000 nursing facilities serving 1.4 million patients in the U.S. For years, long-term care practitioners have created paper-driven care plans in an attempt to present an accurate picture of a resident’s daily needs and quality of life. But paper-driven systems often preclude efficient data sharing and updating, which are critical in maintaining quality.

The wireless network is integrated with a new configurable software protocol that assesses residents’ current conditions and types of services required. It then tracks completion of nursing tasks and makes this data immediately available to management. The network also makes wireless internet access available to any resident desiring to get online.

Since the long-term care industry is one of the most highly regulated and information intense fields in the U.S. today, it represents a perfect candidate for low cost/high performance wireless solutions. With nurses being held increasingly responsible for the precision of data reporting, handheld wireless devices are becoming essential.
