TARZANA, Calif. -- Zonu, Inc., a leading manufacturer of single fiber, single mode transceivers for optical communications, introduces a low-cost, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) single fiber transceiver, for 10 Km links. The new device is hardened to operate over an extended temperature range to provide carrier class transport for next generation access systems. These Small Form Plugable (SFP) modules are compliant with the industry standard Multi Source Agreement (MSA) with built-in Serial ID capabilities providing vendor and product information including part number, manufacturer and other parameters. The product includes a built-in LED indicator, which provides immediate link status to enable easy installation and preliminary verification of fiber plant operation. This is the first in a series of transceivers designed for current as well as next generation advanced switches and routers. Transceivers for OC-3 and OC-12 data rates and a GBIC package will be available Q2 2002.Bi-directional data over a Single Fiber is accomplished with Zonu's proprietary optics. The design accommodates FP or DFB lasers for optional distances and various standard connectors. Operation is from a single +3.3 volt power supply with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The transmitter incorporates an Automatic Laser Power Control circuit (APC) to maintain the optical power and extinction ratio over the entire temperature range. The transceivers are also compliant with Class 1 emission levels. The use of this single fiber SFP transceiver can reduce fiber count while the "hot plugable" feature allows for easy field installation and scalability.Zonu Inc.
