OTTAWA -- Zarlink Semiconductor (NYSE/TSE:ZL) is sampling two new devices that set price, capacity and performance benchmarks for converting TDM (time division multiplexing) voice traffic to IP (internet protocol) packets. The MT92210 is the industry's highest capacity and most cost effective TDM-to-IP network processor. The device converts 1,000 full-duplex voice channels to IP packets through a balanced hardware/software architecture that significantly cuts time-to-market for designers implementing VoIP applications. By reducing the number of DSPs (digital signal processors) and packet processors required for high capacity TDM-to-IP conversion, the MT92210 cuts total system costs by up to one-third. Zarlink's MT92220 is the industry's highest capacity device to offer two modes of conversion on a single chip - either TDM-to-IP or voice over ATM (asynchronous transfer mode). The MT92220 can be configured to convert 1,000 full-duplex voice channels to IP packets or AAL2 (ATM adaptation layer type 2) voice traffic, providing designers with flexibility and a migration path in the fast changing convergence market."These new devices set density, price, and ease-of-use benchmarks for TDM-to-IP conversion," said Jeremy Lewis, product line manager, Zarlink Semiconductor.
