Provider of the first commercial, Internet Peering Points across Europe
June 12, 2001
LONDON -- XchangePoint, provider of the first commercial, Internet Peering Points across Europe, officially opens its doors for business today, ending the restricted access to the Internet core and opening up opportunities for all service and content providers. To date, Internet Peering, the mechanism by which ISPs interconnect traffic, has been controlled by membership organisations, unable to offer flexibility or diversity of service. This has been compounded by their single country focus, necessitating peering through a different organisation in each city. Founded by an expert team, including gamekeeper-turned-poacher, Keith Mitchell, XchangePoint has created an entirely new business model for interconnect services, one based on commercial viability, rapid provisioning and quality of service guarantees on a pan-European basis. XchangePoint ensures maximum reach for customers within a city through the use of a distributed architecture at the vanguard of technology. XchangePoint enables scaleable interconnect of multi-mode IP traffic and its IPP services will increasingly handle very high volumes of traffic from mobile, video and VOIP applications. Its service offerings include public and private interconnect, IPv6 and multi-cast. XchangePoint
