SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Alcoa’s AFL Telecommunications business has partnered with Xanoptix, Inc. to provide data users with the ability to go faster with end-to-end MM fiber optic connections. With AFL's end-to-end passive optical solutions and Xanoptix's newly introduced XTM-1ä transceiver and innovative 72-fiber connectors, optical networks now have greater flexibility, speed and bandwidth. At the upcoming Optical Fiber Communication (OFC) conference in Anaheim, CA, Xanoptix will demonstrate the ability to transmit data at 200 Gb/s over more than 1km of 72-channel, 50-micron multi-mode optical cable supplied by AFL.

Al Swanson, director of Sales & Marketing for AFL Telecommunications Optical Fiber Systems, said the agreement is a good fit for both companies. "The advent of efficient connections and high-bandwidth multimode fibers is revolutionizing the data communications industry," he said. "AFL has expertise in high bandwidth custom cables and assemblies which are optimized for the highest flexibility and density in the datacomm market. Together with Xanoptix’s new state-of-the-art optical communications line, we create a powerful combination that enables datacomm end users to get the greatest bandwidth performance for their money and space."
