Worst Idea Ever

5:15 PM -- AutoWeek alerts us that "a company called SameLane has developed proprietary software that, if embraced by the general public, is sure to help cause highway havoc and increase the number of accidents and deaths on the highway."

From the criminally stupid press release:

  • Delta Meridian Inc announced today it is now beta testing it’s [sic] new network called SameLane which enables riders in vehicles on any roadway to make social cell phone calls to riders in other vehicles by simply calling a premium charge phone line and entering the license plate of the vehicle in view they wish to contact...

So at SameLane we’re putting adventure back into driving. You may not be able to escape long commutes or mile long traffic jams but we can remove the walls of steel and glass that separate you from socializing with other road users in the same situation...

Just about every one in the USA and Canada who rides in a car or a truck has a cell phone. Now for the first time they will be able to call the rider in the vehicle in front* by simply calling the SameLane mobile line and entering the other vehicle license plate number. It’s really that simple. It’s fully automatic and within a minute you could be chatting on your cell phone to a rider in the other vehicle.

I don't know about you, but I don't want adventure put back into driving. In fact, that's precisly where I do not want adventure to be.
