Worldwide CMTS Revenue Jumps in Q3

Worldwide CMTS equipment revenue climbed 15% to $209 million in the third quarter, thanks to strong cable and voice-over-IP (VoIP) growth, according to the latest figures from Infonetics Research. The strong increase follows an even bigger 25% surge in the second quarter. Infonetics said upstream port shipments rose 18% while downstream port shipments jumped 19% in the summer quarter. Cisco Systems continued to rule the market with a 58% share of both worldwide revenue and port shipments. But both Arris and BigBand Networks also posted gains while Motorola reported flat results. North America accounted for 49% of CMTS revenue in Q3, followed by Europe and the Middle East, the Asia/Pacific region, and Central and Latin America. Citing increasing data capacities, telephony, multimedia and ultimately wideband DOCSIS 3.0, Infonetics projects that annual CMTS revenue will hit $1.1 billion by 2008.
