DALLAS -- Xtera Communications, Inc. (“Xtera”), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today announced the launch of OTN switching capabilities on its advanced 100G optical networking platform, Nu-Wave OptimaTM. Xtera now offers a stand-alone or integrated switching solution capable of providing the flexibility and scale necessary to enable service providers to efficiently respond to the continued growth of the Internet, greater prevalence of video content, and more dependence on network-based storage. The benefits of Xtera’s converged Layer 0 WDM transport and Layer 1 OTN switching solution include scalable transport and switching capacity, efficient capacity utilization in backbone networks, high manageability on per service and per wavelength basis, fast service provisioning, quick failure protection, and policy-based restoration.Using the latest technologies and chipsets, Xtera’s OTN switch includes an advanced architecture with a hybrid packet/circuit switch fabric. The switching capacity is 2.4 Tb/s per shelf, upgradable in a hitless way to 21.6-Tb/s capacity in a single-stage switch fabric. With the introduction of OTN switching, Xtera’s Nu-Wave OptimaTM platform provides a standardized network-to-network, service-independent interface for connecting multiple transport domains and offering restoration capabilities within a single- and multi-vendor environment.
