CALGARY, Canada -- In a pair of moves to address the widening appeal for its pioneering network data processing platform beyond its original base of wireless network operators, Wireless Edge today announced that it is changing its name to Wedge Networks, effective immediately. The company commencing a formalized rebranding program to implement the change, to be completed by late May.

Also today, Wireless Edge announced it has secured $2 million in investment which it intends to use to dramatically increase the company’s sales and marketing functions. Uses for the strategic funding will include the hiring several senior sales and marketing executives as well as systems engineers and others who will strengthen the firm’s sales channel. The funds will also be used towards a reseller channel co-marketing program .

As viruses, spam, and malware have grown as threats impacting network productivity, so has the interest in our integrated, best-of-breed solutions to these problems. The adoption of Wedge Networks as our new name positions us for robust future growth,” said Dr. Phil Gee, CEO of Wedge Networks. “With this investment, based on growing customer interest, we are ready to aggressively market our technologies to wider classes of network operators and users.”

Wedge Networks serves enterprises, Internet service providers, telecom carriers and others who seek to increase the productivity of their networks by enhancing network security and throughput. The company’s core products, BeFast and BeSecure, have achieved significant success in the marketplace by addressing issues of security and bandwidth consumption at the edge of a network without having to install client-level software.
