MONTREAL -- Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of media processing solutions, today announced the formation of a Software Defined Radio (SDR) development group to provide wireless solutions based upon its low power, cost-effective, Opus DSP technology targeting current and emerging wireless markets.

The group is headed by Emmanuel Gresset as vice president of Software Defined Radio (SDR). Gresset joined Octasic from STMicroelectronics where he managed strategic development for the Wireless Infrastructure Division. Prior to STM, Gresset worked in the US and Europe for various systems and semiconductor companies focusing on the design of voice and wireless modems, digital signal processors, and System on a Chip (SoC) architectures. He received his masters of Electronic Engineering from the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité in Paris and completed his studies at Stanford University in California.Drawing on Gresset’s depth of contacts in the wireless community and the potential of its Opus core, Octasic has assembled a team of expert wireless engineers from France, Spain, China, India, and Canada. This team that is now completely based in Montreal, is designing the industry’s lowest-power DSP solutions for wireless infrastructure.

Octasic’s wireless initiative targets baseband signal processing solutions for wireless infrastructure platforms extending from femto cells to macro basestations. The Octasic wireless team will unveil its first fully soft baseband solution aimed at GSM/EDGE radio basestations next month at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 16-19, 2009).

“Octasic has a strong history in DSP innovation and development,” said Gresset. “The SDR team will expand on Octasic’s strengths in multimedia voice and video gateway’s, by adding development platforms for the next generation of multi-standard wireless products that will address the needs of software-defined baseband processors for 2G, 3G and 4G basestations.”

Octasic’s wireless program is based on the company’s unique and groundbreaking Opus DSP core technology that, through its asynchronous core, provides flexibility, high performance, very low power consumption, and an easily extensible and programmable design platform.
