NEC secures WiMAX Forum certification for base stations and 2.5GHz mobile subscriber units
August 29, 2008
TOKYO -- NEC Corporation announced today that it has received the WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) seal of approval for its base station and PC card of NEC's comprehensive 2.5GHz WiMAX product portfolio. Each newly certified product has faced a stringent suite of interoperability tests, which the WiMAX Forum sets out to ensure that different vendor systems work seamlessly with one another. This certification follows a long history of global WiMAX(TM) successes for NEC. Notably, in June of this year, NEC became the first manufacturer to be certified through the WiMAX Forum Designated Certification Lab in Taiwan.
"Certification of this key NEC portfolio component validates the company's long term commitment to WiMAX and its larger role in smoothly delivering mobile and wireless data networks on a global scale," said Dr. Nobuhiro Endo, Associate Senior Vice President of NEC. "NEC's exceptional achievements include implementation of MIMO Matrix B; an antenna technology which allows operators to double throughput to their customers when compared to existing WIMAX performance."
