SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- IPWireless, a pioneer in the development of 3GPP mobile broadband and multimedia broadcast technologies, announced that the management team of IPWireless has acquired 75 percent of the company from its former parent, NextWave Wireless. IPWireless also announced that it has simultaneously arranged long term financing with a significant strategic partner. The company believes that these funds will put it on a secure financial footing to provide continuing support to its existing and new customers in the commercial and government sectors using innovative, standards-based, mobile broadband and broadcast solutions.

"Over the past decade, IPWireless has proven its ability, over and over again, to pioneer innovative 3GPP solutions that dramatically broaden the possibilities of wireless for our customers in both government and commercial markets,” said Dr. Bill Jones, co-founder and CEO of IPWireless. “We are excited that not only do we have the right team and financial resources in place to continue to build on this excellent track record but now also the flexibility and strategic focus that are unique to management-controlled ventures.”

IPWireless was founded in 1999 to deliver next generation silicon, software and network solutions based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards. The 3GPP was created in 1998 to create the technical specifications for UMTS, the evolution of GSM, the world’s dominant standard for mobile communications. The 3GPP has continued to evolve these standards through the recently defined Release 8 which includes specifications for LTE (Long-term Evolution) and iMB (integrated mobile broadcast).
