Wireless in Seattle

6:00 PM -- Seattle is starting to look like the place to be in the U.S. if you want wireless broadband services as soon as possible.

Towerstream Corp. (Nasdaq: TWER) already has a proto-WiMax network there; Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) and Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR) are coming; and now XO Communications Inc. says its getting in on the game. (See XO Launches Services.)

This is going to make the rainy city a very useful barometer of the rude health -- or not -- of this young market in the year to come. Hopefully we'll be able to dig down on subscriber numbers and service pricing and essentially see the bigger picture in... oh, say 12 months or so. Maybe less.
